What We Can Learn From The Devil

I know at first glance the title may sound a little sacrilegious. However it’s not what it sounds like. Believe it or not, there are some things that we can learn from our enemy. This is not a doctrine or a hidden message, but there are some truths as to our enemies actions that we can learn from. As we launch out into a new year, a new year will always bring new challenges. Especially spiritual challenges. As the return of Christ gets closer and closer with each passing year, the enemy will not be holding back.

Revelation 12:12 For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them; Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.”

The first thing we can learn from the enemy is that he’s keeping busy. The Bible tells us that he is like a lion, seeking someone to devour. Therefore his ultimate plans are against the family, the church and our testimony. He’ll attempt to bring division in our relationships, provide opportunities for sin (i.e; adultery, pornography, fornication, drunkenness, etc), encourage rebellion, start gossips, and encourage a complete assault against God and His word. Before you know it, he’s brought an arsenal against your character and question against your integrity.

If not careful you’ll find yourself sipping more alcohol, slipping more curse words, saying more dirty jokes, jolting out more gossip, finding yourself in more compromising situations, and then trying to justify it by saying “we are under grace and not under the law”. We must recognize that the enemy hates us and believes that our fall and destruction is worth it! Consider this, if he attempted to divide heaven, he will attempt to divide your family, your church and your testimony.

The second thing we can learn from him is that he knows time is of the essence “….having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.” The enemy does not know God’s calendar nor God’s plan. But he does know that God’s word is true and that if God said He is going to do something than He’s truly going to do it! This is why time is of the essence to the enemy. He knows that his time to bow down before His maker is approaching rapidly. Sadly enough, it seems he takes what he does against the followers of Christ more seriously then we take of him.

We must realize that as followers of Christ, time is truly of the essence as well. Therefore it’s time to get right with our God! Whatever your waiting for when it comes to making the Lord King should wait no longer. Let’s not wait for the next great worship service or church camp or leadership conference or podcast from your favorite speaker to realize that time is of the essence. If you ever told yourself, “one day I’m going to make things right with God”. Well can I encourage you and say that TODAY is that “one day”. Get right!

It’s not only time to get right but it is also time for holiness. It’s time to desire to be more like Christ and less like us. Holiness is what He desires and holiness is what we should truly long for. It’s time to overcome our bad habits, forgive our past, respect our spouses, obey our parents, stop our cursing tongue, crush our jealousy, and love our brother. Let’s make 2011 a call for personal holiness. Let’s be thoughtful of what we watch, what we listen to, where we go, how we act, how we react, and truly “put on the Christ”.

Finally it’s time to prioritize. Let’s stop and consider if Christ is truly number one in our lives. Take an introspection and take a deep look at what is most important. If Christ isn’t at the absolute top, it’s time to put Him there. Re-evaluate what’s important and what’s meaningful and give God praise with a life of order and obedience. Let us take those one or two things that have taken control of our lives and place them at the feet of the almighty God and become free!

The devil is at work and is in no mood to free you. His wrath is great, especially in these last days. But there is no god like our God! His mercies are renewed each day for those who are in Him. Make this the year that we take a page from the devils book and recognize that time is truly of the essence. It’s time to make the Lord your King and your Master this new year!

Praying you have a blessed 2011- Pastor Sammy

very good observation about the “enemy”. In my point of view the only thing I can learn from the “enemy” is the “unity”…but he’s here to destroy us.
The opposite of my King Jesus.
(If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? Matthew 12:26)
( And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. Mark 3:26)

And with our Lord of Lords.( JESUS)
I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete “unity”. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. (Jhon 17:23)
Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.Ephesians 4:3

  3. I have walked the devils road and danced with him in his deepest pit in my early years , so i know him well and his work but still i always fall for his delucion . I know God is real but still i can not feel him but i feel the Devil more strongly and i do not like this because i wish for better life . Is the Devil stronger in some country and some not i know already that the devil comes in many forms as in music movies people clothes and many more.

    • Thank you for your question. You are right when you say that the devil is strong. He is sly and he can deceive many. You also asked a very important question and that was, is the devil stronger in some countries and not in others. In reality, the devil is who he is. He is strong but he is also defeated! Jesus is stronger all over the world and nothing and no one can defeat Him. The devil is only as strong as we allow him to be strong over us. Yet, if Christ lives and dwells in you, you have power over him all hours of the day! Be blessed my friend and stand strong in the Lord.- Pastor Sammy
